The main focus of the role:

 

The Digital Writer will work closely with our Group Editor, LFTO team members and wider digital team to ensure www.livefortheoutdoors.com cements its position as the UK’s No.1 online source of outdoor gear advice. As well as regularly updating our existing gear reviews and online articles, you will keep on top of all the latest releases in hiking and running by testing and reviewing new kit on a regular basis. 

 

We’re looking for an ambitious and highly-motivated content creator with a genuine passion for the outdoors. As well as writing and editing informative website copy, your responsibilities will include promoting Live for the Outdoors via social media and email newsletters, representing LFTO at trade shows, and building strong relationships with relevant PR and industry contacts.

 

The ideal candidate will be a creative and highly organised digital journalist, well equipped to contribute articles and on a regular basis which are well-written, accurate and delivered on deadline. You’ll need to work in a flexible and agile way in a fast-paced and constantly evolving industry. Underpinning all of that, you’ll be able to demonstrate first-rate digital skills, including an excellent understanding of SEO best practice, experience working on affiliate content and an appreciation of the role that data analysis can play in digital publishing.

 

Most importantly, you need to live the outdoor lifestyle as much as the rest of our team do, so we can keep inspiring our audience to do the same. 

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Identifying and reviewing the best new releases in the outdoor gear market
  • Writing, editing and proofreading new copy to a high standard, ensuring it is optimised in line with our best practice guidelines
  • Working with the wider digital team to update existing content
  • Meeting content targets, adhering to copy deadlines and ensuring a smooth flow of content through the site
  • Generating engaging and topical ideas for future stories and website features 
  • Growing our social media reach with fresh and exciting content ideas across multiple channels
  • Liaising with staff in Bauer’s wider digital team, including editorial staff, SEO teams, content-commerce analysts, and advertising and marketing teams where necessary
  • Attending relevant events, press briefings and conferences when appropriate
  • Creating and maintaining excellent contacts within the outdoor industry
  • Staying up to date with privacy, defamation and contempt law

 

What we’re looking for:

  • A strong understanding of modern digital audiences, allowing you to deliver a high standard of original and exclusive content which resonates and engages with outdoor enthusiasts
  • Masses of ideas for developing engaging, original content that’s well researched, full of personality and imaginatively presented
  • An understanding of what makes a truly great piece of outdoor kit – and the ability to articulate that in your own voice to help our audience make informed buying decisions
  • Experience of creating content for a modern digital audience – from words and imagery to SEO research and working in website CMS platforms
  • Experience creating and optimising affiliate content and an understanding of how important this type of work is to modern digital publishing  
  • The ability to think like our audience and keep one step ahead of competitors – finding new angles and ways of presenting content which gives our audience something they won’t get elsewhere
  • The ability to communicate with a wide range of people and personalities, both internally and externally, and to act like an ambassador for LFTO, raising the website’s profile in the outdoor industry and beyond
  • The ability to forward plan effectively and deliver to continually changing deadlines
  • The passion and professionalism to deliver consistent high-quality output, with a flexible style that can consistently adapt to the ever-changing media landscape we operate in
  • Positive attitude, huge enthusiasm and passion for the outdoors, and the desire to become a key part of a small but high-performing team.
