You will be working closely with our Scotland news team and linking into our wider UK‑wide news network, covering the Forth 1 and Greatest Hits Radio patch across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.


You’ll be joining a passionate, hard‑working team who care deeply about keeping listeners informed across radio, online and social platforms. To thrive here, you’ll need a genuine interest in local, national and international news, current affairs and sport.

The Difference You Will Make

 

As a Senior Reporter for Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife, you will be at the forefront of breaking stories, delivering impactful journalism across audio, video and digital.


With at least two years' reporting experience, you will bring strong editorial judgement, creativity, and an instinct for compelling local stories. You’ll help ensure Forth 1 and Greatest Hits Radio remain trusted, relevant and truly reflective of the communities we broadcast to.

 

Your Role:

 

You will focus on producing engaging, locally relevant stories for on‑air bulletins and digital platforms, while supporting the wider Scotland news operation when required.


Although the core of this role is news reporting, you may also contribute to sport reporting from time to time.

 

 

Your Responsibilities:

 

In this role, your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Focus on producing compelling local stories for bulletins.
  • Report and produce on location of major news stories.
  • Produce pictures and video as well as audio for our websites.
  • Fill in on any bulletin reading or reporting shifts, if required.
  • Update local news content on our websites and on social media, ensuring this is compliant within the law.
  • You will be the first on the scene of breaking stories, delivering colourful, descriptive reports, gathering high-quality, engaging audio and being able to respond calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • You will have a strong voice that delivers radio reports with authority and you will also have the ear, eye and editing skills to create outstanding video reports too.
  • News happens at any time of day or night, seven days a week so flexibility is expected in order to react to major stories outside of normal working hours. 

             

 

The Skills You Will Bring
 
Required:

  • A genuine passion for news and strong awareness of local, national and international stories
  • At least two years’ multimedia journalism experience, ideally in a fast‑paced news environment
  • Strong editorial judgement and the drive to be first with breaking news
  • Confidence, curiosity and enthusiasm to be a trusted local reporter
  • A full UK driving licence - essential for attending incidents quickly
  • The ability to work full‑time on site in Edinburgh

Desired:

  • Familiarity with the Edinburgh / Lothians / Fife news landscape

 

Working Pattern / Location

 

This role is full time and office based in Edinburg. You must live on patch to respond quickly to breaking news. Occasional weekend work may be required depending on rota demands.
