Art Editor (Bookazines)
The Focus of the Role:
As the Art Editor (Bookazines) you’ll be responsible for supporting the Creative output of all Bookazines within the Bookazine project. You’ll be executing the design vision for the bookazines working in collaboration with Brand Art & Creative Directors.
This role focuses on creating visually compelling page layouts, ensuring alignment with the brand’s identity, and maintaining design consistency across all bookazines and brands.
You will be working closely with the Brand Editor, Bookazines, content teams, design teams from other segments and production teams to ensure high-quality visual content is delivered on time. You’ll also be managing the day-to-day design processes and assist in leading the design function to meet production deadlines and ensure smooth workflow.
This role is for an initial 12 month period, and will have a hybrid working model with attendance at either our Peterborough or London office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support for Art Direction: Assist the Creative Director, Group Art Director and Art Director in implementing and executing the overall design vision, maintaining alignment with brand standards and editorial goals.
- Page Layouts & Design: Create engaging page layouts and ensure visual cohesion across editorial and brand extensions, ensuring that designs align with the brand style and editorial requirements.
- Creative Collaboration: Work closely with the editorial, commercial, and marketing teams to design content that enhances editorial storytelling and supports the overall brand vision.
- Image Selection, Approval & Reprographics: Select and approve pictures, illustrations, and other visual assets, ensuring that images are optimized for both print and digital platforms. Collaborate with the Art Director, Bookazine Editor, editorial teams, and picture editors to guarantee the best visual representation for the brand. Be responsible for overseeing the reprographics process, ensuring images meet the necessary standards for color correction, resolution, and quality, and ensuring they are prepared correctly for final production.
- Deadline Management: Manage multiple design projects and ensure timely delivery of high-quality visual content, particularly during peak production periods.
- Design Consistency: Ensure consistency in design outputs across platforms, including print and digital formats, while adhering to the brand’s visual guidelines.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance, support, and feedback to Art Editor Bookazines and GGT Designers when required, ensuring the development of their design skills while maintaining the production standards.
- Cross-Segment Support: Assist in design efforts across various segments as required, ensuring brand consistency and supporting the broader team during tight deadlines.
- Creative Ideation: Contribute innovative ideas for visual storytelling during idea meetings and collaborate to better engage the audience.
- Creativity with AI: Use Ai design tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly, other generative design software) to boost creative innovation and increase the visual quality of digital and print, ensuring all designs remain fresh and competitive.
- Using AI within Bauer’s workflow: Integrate AI as part of the global master workflow by following Bauer’s AI processes and guidelines to streamline design, increase efficiency, and meet workflow requirements across all brand platforms, including all print and digital systems and workflows.
What You’ll Bring:
- Solid understanding of pre-press, print production, and digital media workflows.
- Experience mentoring and supporting junior designers.
- Experience liaising with editorial, content, Art & Creative brand Directors
- A deep understanding of GPS technology and workflow management systems is essential
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) with a focus on layout design and visual storytelling.
- Ability to manage multiple design tasks and projects while adhering to strict deadlines.
- Strong eye for detail and visual consistency, especially in typography, image selection, and layout design.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with editorial, marketing, and commercial teams.
- Ability to adapt designs across print and digital formats while maintaining the brand’s identity.
