Brand Editor (Bookazines)
The Focus of the Role:
As the Brand Editor for Bookazines you’re responsible for the overall quality and output of content from the Bookazine team.
Working with the Director of Magazines, Publisher, Director of Design & Production & Managing Editor, Content you will help shape schedule of content utilising our many brands’ archives to curate engaging bookazines.
You will be skilled at working with multiple stakeholders to commission & and edit content for multiple bookazines across multiple audiences and topic types. From Music to Golf, from Cars to Lifestyle you will work across all teams identifying further opportunities.
You’ll be an active and influential figurehead in this role, cultivating relationships with a range of stakeholders including other Brand Editors, Director of Brand & Content, commercial, marketing, publishing, and digital, to promote their brand(s), maximise revenue opportunities, and align on ways of working.
This role is for a 12 month period, and will have a hybrid working model with attendance at either our Peterborough or London office.
Key Responsibilities:
Editorial content planning
- Attends brainstorms and ideation meetings and brand segment planning meetings to ensure the right mix of stories and to support with forward planning
- Plans content outside of fixed cascades and create flatplan with Group Editors / Production Editor, and or Art Directors where appropriate
- Liaises with other internal (and external) stakeholders, including advertising, digital, affiliates, marketing, publisher, commercial, to plan and ensure delivery of content
- Plans content using Monday boards
- Collaborates with Head of Content to create and brief content creators where applicable
Delivery
- Proofreads designated pages and corrects non-negotiable top line errors
- Accountable for the legal process and checks
- Produces cover and cover stories in collaboration with Content teams, Art Directors, and Director of Brand & Content, approves cover design, legals and signs off after Brand & Content Director and Publisher approval
- Oversees the issue flatplan flow before press
- Delivers against OKRs and KPIs in collaboration with the Director of Brand & Content and Publisher
- Uploads to Amazon store print on demand
Reviewing
- Post-production review (monthly) with Director of Brand & Content and Heads of Content to ensure continuous improvement on quality and efficiency
- Updates brand briefs and blueprints in collaboration with the Director of Brand & Content
- Responsible for copy sales and market share in collaboration with the Director of Brand & Content, monitoring competitors and responding to audience needs
Team Performance and Development
- In collaboration with Director of Brand & Content and Heads of Content supports the development of a high performing team and culture of continuous learning
- Proactively seeks feedback, support and guidance when needed to ensure their personal output is to the highest quality standards, and takes ownership of their personal development, in partnership with their line manager, by taking advantage of development opportunities including Digital Drop-ins, Bauer Academy courses, coaching and mentoring etc.
What You’ll Bring:
- Is a brand ambassador and expert who can confidently articulate the brand vision, strategy, tone, look, and scope to others
- Has a thorough understanding of the end to end process to produce a quality product that resonates with readers
- Instinctively knows stories that will resonate with brand(s) audiences
- Is proficient in using Monday.com for planning
- Is proficient in using GPS editorial production tools including WoodWing Assets, WoodWing Studio and Print Editor
- Is proficient at writing headline grabbing cover stories
- Is proficient at checking and editing content on all platforms, including print, digital, apps and
e-publishing - Understands and follows the Master Workflow, promoting best practice
- Is a good communicator and can develop successful working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
- Can evaluate audience metrics and make effective commercial decisions about the strategy of the brand(s)
- Understands budgets and can make effective budget decisions in partnership with the Director of Brand and Content, the Publisher and the Managing Editor, Content
- Comfortable working in a matrix structure
- Demonstrates the ability to foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
