Content Editor (Celebrity News & Features)

Do you have the contacts to bring in exclusive celebrity content that’ll jump out at our readers from the newsstand? And do you strive to inspire the next generation of showbiz reporters?
We are now looking for a Content Editor to help create the best content for our much-loved brands, Bella, Yours, heat and Closer, as well as lead and inspire our team of talented content creators.
In this role, you will pitch and secure media interviews and news stories, brief the teams, and write your own sparkling news copy, which will delight and surprise our readers. You’ll also attend red carpet and celebrity events and represent Bauer and its brands.

Our Team
You’ll join a supportive, innovative team, reporting to the Deputy Head of Content for news. Alongside the weekly print magazines, you’ll have the opportunity to work on monthly specials and our digital platforms.
This is a hybrid role working from home and from our office location in London.
What you will do
- Editorial Content Planning: Collaborates with Content Creators to explore and generate story ideas.
- Commissions and/or briefs all Content Creators as stories are agreed.
- Commissions external contributors when required.
- Horizon scans for trends and ideas and reviews competition, making content recommendations to the Deputy Head and Head of Content.
- Delivery: Organises their diary to ensure assigned work is delivered on time and to plan.
- Writes, edits, and approves content, ensuring style and tone is on-brand, all legal checks have been carried out, and images are in place (in conjunction with Art Director and Picture Team where appropriate).
- Organises, oversees, and monitors the output of their content team members in collaboration with the Head of Content, to ensure the timely delivery of quality content to brands, including planned content cascades
- Reviewing: Identifies team and individual skills, strengths, and development needs, and collaborates with Brand Editors, Content Editors, HR, Training, and subject matter experts to provide coaching, mentoring and development opportunities
- Holds regular one to one meetings with Senior Content Creators and Content Creators to review performance, provide feedback, coaching and support their personal development needs
- Proactively seeks feedback, support and guidance when needed to ensure their personal output is to the highest quality standards, and takes ownership of their personal development, by taking advantage of development opportunities including Digital Drop-ins, Bauer Academy courses, coaching and mentoring etc.
What you will bring:
- In-depth knowledge of the showbiz market - especially around royal stories and daytime TV stars - but a thorough understanding of the celebrity market is essential.
- Proven experience at a senior writer level on similar titles, whether it be magazines, newspapers or in a TV background.
- Efficient and organised and can manage and coordinate multiple people and tasks, ensuring that content creation and deadlines are met.
- Ability to confidently turn your hand to different brand styles and tones, and can articulate the differences between them, to develop the skills of content creators.
- Preferably have experience in running a small team, and can demonstrate a supportive nature, and encourage a culture of growth, to continually improve performance.
