Director of Architecture (m/f/d)

The Director of Architecture (m/f/d) is a strategic technology leader responsible for defining and guiding Architecture across audio broadcast systems, digital product engineering, and AI capabilities. This role ensures technology decisions support business strategy, drive innovation, and deliver scalable, secure, and future-ready solutions across a diverse technical landscape.
This individual will lead a team of Architects across Bauer Media Audio (BMA), covering the three areas of our estate, working closely with leaders in the Technology & AI Leadership team, as well as leaders across all markets to ensure our technology strategy works for the whole of BMA.
Main Responsibilities
Architecture:
- Define and maintain the technology architecture vision spanning broadcast distribution chain and associated systems, cloud platforms, digital products, data, and AI
- Establish architectural standards, patterns, and governance to ensure alignment across engineering teams
- Lead long-term platform strategy, architectural reviews and technology assessments
- Translate business objectives into scalable, interoperable, and cost-efficient technical designs
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Mentor a team of architects; build a high-performance architecture practice
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to the executive leadership team, product, commercial and data stakeholders
- Drive cross-functional alignment between engineering, operations, security, broadcast technology, product, and AI teams
- Contribute to wider Bauer Media Group technology decisions and approach as required
- Represent BMA across the Bauer Media Group and in the industry as required
Technical Oversight:
- Drive the approach for the technical evolution of BMA’s overall Technology estate across broadcast, product and AI
- Play a key role on the modernisation of the broadcast technology stack across all nine BMA markets, helping to ensure a joined approach across all teams involved
- Guide architectural decisions and technical direction for core digital products and systems
- Drive the evaluation and adoption of new technologies, tools, and processes that enhance productivity and innovation
- Removing ambiguity from requirements by suggesting solutions aligned to core architectural principals, patterns and best practice

Main Objectives
- Collaboration & Cooperation: As a key member of the Technology & AI team, work closely with peers and key stakeholders on driving the digital transformation of BMA
- Delivering Value & Technical Alignment: Guarantee that BMA’s technical strategy aligns and enables the delivery of business goals
- Team Growth & Development: Ensure the architecture team is motivated, well-supported, and continuously improves

- Excellent organisational skills, able to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently

- Collaboration & Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders. A focus on transparent and empathetic communication
- Conflict Resolution: Ability to mediate disputes within the team and ensure conflicts are resolved constructively
- Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to interact and influence at an executive level
Previous work experience
- Strong technical backgound and leadership experience
- Experience leading architecture teams in a large, matrix organisation
- Ideally experience in the media industry
