As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be a critical player in the evolution of Bauer Media Audio's data architecture. You will support the Head of Data Engineering and Architecture in building and scaling our data capabilities across the UK and internationally, with particular focus on the implementation of our CUBE architecture. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic vision to transform business needs into tangible data products and services.
Core Responsibilities
CUBE Architecture Implementation:
Lead the design and implementation of data pipeline migrations from legacy systems to CUBE o Design and optimize ETL/ELT workflows using Airflow and cloud-native services
Develop and maintain data infrastructure using Terraform and related IaC tools
Contribute to the implementation of Kubernetes for containerized workloads o Automate and productionise dbt models within CI/CD and Airflow.
Layered Data Architecture: Implement a sophisticated data platform with distinct Raw, ETL Processing, Curated, Modeling, and Consumption layers
Technical Leadership:
- Foster collaboration and skill sharing with the wider DDS team, enabling uptake of tools and workflows.
- Provide technical guidance for complex data integration projects o Design and implement best practices for data engineering processes
- Collaborate on architectural decisions to ensure scalability and performance
Data Engineering Excellence:
- Utilize expert SQL skills (Postgres, Cloud SQL) for data manipulation and analysis
- Develop robust Python code for building, maintaining, and orchestrating data pipelines
- Create Airflow Operators to promote component reusability across the data pipelines.
- Implement and optimize cloud database solutions (BigQuery, Redshift)
- Ensure data quality through implementation of testing frameworks and monitoring tools
- Ensure the technical solutions has proper monitoring and alerting
Project Delivery:
- Lead technical implementation for key initiatives including Consumer Competitions expansion
- Support Braze implementation and AINS/ROMA migration efforts
- Work with cross-functional teams to deliver data solutions across multiple markets
- Design and implement monitoring and alerting for data pipelines and infrastructure
2025 Strategic Focus Areas
- Transition from legacy data architecture (Caspian) to CUBE architecture.
- Build the data foundation for unified analysis of digital audio performance across all markets
- Implementation of data quality frameworks using tools like Datahub and Great Expectations
- Expansion of data capabilities to international markets
- Design and development of scalable, cloud-native data solutions
Revenue Management Analytics:
- Develop frameworks for advanced advertising and inventory analysis
- Digital Consumption Analytics: Build the data foundation for unified analysis of digital audio performance across all markets
Qualifications
Core Technical Skills:
- Expert in SQL (Postgres, Cloud SQL) with proven ability to optimize complex queries
- Strong Python development experience for data pipeline creation and automation
- Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift)
- Proficiency with workflow orchestration tools, particularly Airflow
- Experience with Terraform or similar IaC tools for infrastructure management
Required Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles
- Proven track record implementing and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines
- Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP)
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical aspects of complex data projects
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Kubernetes for containerized applications
- Familiarity with BI Platforms like Looker or Power BI
- Knowledge of web analytics technologies and ad tech platforms
- Experience in the media or audio industry
- Background in data modeling and warehouse design

Purpose and Impact
This role is pivotal in transforming Bauer Audio's data architecture through the implementation of the CUBE platform. Over the first six months, you will focus on critical migrations from legacy systems, international expansion of our competitions business, and strengthening our data pipeline infrastructure. Your contributions will accelerate our digital transformation journey and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.
