About the Role 

 

iRadio is looking for a confident and engaging Freelance News Reader to join our team and deliver accurate, relevant and compelling news to our listeners across the Northeast and Northwest. 

 

We’re looking for a strong broadcaster with excellent editorial judgement, a clear and engaging delivery style, and the ability to bring news stories to life while maintaining accuracy and impartiality. 

 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Deliver news bulletins across iRadio, including national, international, regional and local stories. 
  • Research, write and prepare news bulletins to a high editorial standard. 
  • Ensure all news content is accurate, timely, balanced and relevant to the iRadio audience. 
  • Monitor breaking news and developing stories throughout your shift. 
  • Adapt bulletins quickly in response to breaking or changing news. 
  • Identify and develop stories that are particularly relevant to audiences across the Northeast and Northwest. 
  • Conduct interviews and gather information from relevant sources where required. 
  • Work closely with the wider news and programming teams to develop strong, audience-focused content. 
  • Ensure all content complies with Bauer Media Audio Ireland editorial standards and relevant broadcasting regulations. 
  • Contribute news content for iRadio’s digital and social platforms where required. 
  • Maintain a strong awareness of current affairs, local issues and stories impacting the communities iRadio serves. 

 

What You’ll Have: 

  • Has previous experience in radio news, journalism or broadcasting. 
  • Has a confident, clear and engaging delivery style. 
  • Has excellent writing, research and editorial skills. 
  • Demonstrates strong editorial judgement and attention to detail. 
  • Is comfortable working to tight deadlines and handling breaking news. 
  • Can communicate complex stories clearly and concisely. 
  • Has a strong understanding of the Northeast and Northwest and the stories that matter to local audiences. 
  • Is confident conducting interviews and dealing with contributors and sources. 
  • Is adaptable, organised and able to work effectively in a fast-paced newsroom. 
  • Has a good understanding of broadcasting standards and the importance of accuracy, fairness and impartiality. 
  • Is comfortable working across both on-air and digital platforms.
