We are looking for an outstanding and ambitious News Editor to lead our regional team in the South of England.

 

The successful candidate will inspire and support a regional team to react to the biggest breaking news, investigate issues of interest to our target audience and generate creative original stories which will help us set the news agenda both locally and across our national brands.

Our News teams won gold in seven of the twelve main categories at the Commercial Radio News Awards 2024, so come and join a team which is at the peak of its powers in a business which is helping change the radio industry.

 

What you will bring

  • You will contribute to a positive working environment and demonstrate the ability to respond calmly and effectively under pressure.  
  • You will lead the implementation of the news strategy for the Hits Radio Network and Greatest Hits Network across all platforms, and have an effective strategy in place to ensure your team are able to respond quickly and effectively to any major breaking story at any time of the day or night. 
  • You will know how to build and get the best out of local contacts in order to enhance the quality of our output and tell stories in the most effective way possible.
  • You will help to find, develop and coach members of the news team and you will ensure their bulletins and reports are legally sound and Ofcom compliant.  
  • You will be expected to compile and present bulletins on any of our news services, local or national brands and/or report on relevant local stories as appropriate.
  • You will have a great voice and the passion and ability to react to breaking news and uncover original stories across the news patch, working across a range of on-air, online and social platforms.
  • You will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding and experience of modern audio/video broadcasting platforms and how they can assist our teams in delivering news content to a wide range of audiences.
  • You should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the kinds of stories which will resonate with our local audiences.
