Director Business Development (f/m/d)

We are seeking a dynamic and execution-oriented Business Development Director to join our team at Bauer Media Group in London or Hamburg. In this role, you will lead the charge in formulating and executing strategic initiatives to propel our business forward, with a particular emphasis on driving growth through mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities in the publishing and commerce environment. Key responsibilities

 

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to define and refine the company's digital expansion strategy, aligning acquisition and growth goals with the overall business objectives, defining the M&A playbook
  • Market Research: Conduct comprehensive market analysis to identify potential acquisition targets, evaluating industry trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies relevant to digital publishing
  • Target Identification: Source and evaluate potential acquisition opportunities, leveraging industry networks, market research, and partnerships to identify companies aligning with our digital growth strategy and build up a deal pipeline
  • Valuation and Negotiation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams incl. corporate M&A department, Legal and functional units to perform financial valuation, structuring deals, and negotiating terms with target companies, aiming for optimal outcomes aligned with company objectives
  • Due Diligence: manage various due diligence efforts with respective internal teams, assessing the operational, financial and technological aspects of potential acquisitions to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and mitigate risks
  • Deal management: Participate in the end-to-end acquisition process, working closely with M&A, legal, finance, and operational teams to facilitate smooth and timely execution of agreements and integrations
  • Post-Merger Integration: Coordinate internal stakeholders and teams to develop and implement integration plans for acquired businesses, ensuring seamless transitions and maximising synergies
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate strong relationships with external stakeholders, including target company executives, advisors, and industry


Qualifications

 

  • Proven experience and track record in business development and M&A / growth projects within the digital sector, preferably within publishing, media or ecommerce
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in financial modelling, valuation techniques, and deal structuring
  • Deep understanding of digital business models, emerging technologies, and market trends impacting the publishing industry
  • Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong networker with deep knowledge of publishing and commerce markets in UK and Germany  
  • Have the ability to work and establish relationships across multiple countries 
  • Confidence, enthusiasm, and a can-do attitude balanced by humility
  • Business proficient English language skills (verbally and written)
