About The Role
Off The Ball is looking for a Head of Off The Ball to lead one of Ireland’s most distinctive digital and broadcast sports media brands into its next phase of growth.
The role will shape the next stage of Off The Ball across broadcast, digital audio, podcasts, video, social, events, subscriptions and commercial partnerships.
Reporting to the CEO of Bauer Media Audio Ireland, the Head of Off The Ball will bring direction, pace and focus to a busy, multi-platform brand at an important point in its story. They will work closely with the Managing Editor and Senior Social Media Manager, ensuring editorial, content and social plans are joined up with the wider direction for the brand.
We are looking for a commercially minded, energetic and collaborative leader who can turn good ideas into action, bring people with them and keep momentum across a busy team.
This role would suit someone with strong experience in media and sport who is ready to lean in, lead from the front and help build the next iteration of Off The Ball.
What You’ll Do:
Divisional Leadership & General Management
- Lead Off The Ball as a distinct division within Bauer Media Audio Ireland, helping set the direction, priorities and pace for the brand’s next phase.
- Set a clear plan for audience growth, revenue, subscriptions, events and brand development.
- Work closely with editorial, social, commercial, marketing and product teams so plans are joined up and responsibilities are clear.
- Build a positive, ambitious team culture with energy, clear communication and high standards.
Commercial
- Grow commercial opportunities for Off The Ball, working with sales teams, advertisers, sponsors, agencies and partners.
- Make sure commercial activity fits the audience, the brand and Off The Ball’s editorial credibility.
- Build strong advertiser and sponsor relationships, positioning the brand confidently in the market.
- Digital Audio, Podcast & Technology Development
- Grow Off The Ball’s digital audio and podcast performance, identifying new opportunities and strengthening its place as a leading sports audio brand.
- Work with editorial, product, technology and commercial colleagues to grow listening, improve distribution and strengthen podcast performance.
- Use technology, data and better workflows to make the brand more effective and easier to grow.
Subscriptions
- Grow subscriptions by improving acquisition, retention, engagement, product and proposition.
- Work with editorial and product colleagues to make subscriber content and experiences feel strong, distinctive and worth paying for.
- Use audience insight and subscriber behaviour to improve product, pricing, communication and retention.
Events & Live Experiences
- Develop live events that strengthen the brand, deepen audience relationships and create commercial opportunities.
- Work with internal teams and external partners to create events that reflect Off The Ball’s authority, personality and connection with Irish sports audiences.
- Plan and deliver events with clear ownership, sensible resourcing and commercial focus.
- Spot opportunities for sponsored events, live broadcasts, audience experiences and premium subscriber engagement.
Brand & Marketing
- Build the brand and audience plan for Off The Ball’s next chapter.
- Work with marketing, editorial, social and commercial teams on campaigns that grow awareness and deepen audience engagement.
- Attract new audiences while strengthening relationships with existing Off The Ball communities.
- Operational Performance & Cross-Functional Delivery
- Keep priorities moving, with clear budgets, timelines and responsibilities.
- Improve ways of working, reduce duplication and help teams make decisions faster.
- Manage budgets and resources responsibly, backing the work most likely to grow the brand.
- Keep communication clear between Off The Ball and wider Bauer teams, including commercial, marketing, finance, technology, HR and operations.
Leadership, Culture & Stakeholder Management
- Lead with clarity, energy and respect, giving specialist leaders room to do their best work.
- Support and challenge team leads, keeping priorities clear and decisions focused on what is best for the brand.
What You’ll Have:
- Strong experience in media, sport, digital audio, commercial media, subscriptions, events or a related area.
- The ability to manage busy priorities, budgets, projects and people with pace, focus and good judgement.
- Commercial confidence and the ability to work well with advertisers, sponsors, agencies, partners and internal sales teams.
- A strong understanding of digital audio, podcasts, subscriptions and audience growth.
- Experience working with editorial, content or creative teams, with respect for editorial standards and specialist expertise.
- The confidence to make clear decisions in a fast-moving environment without over-complicating delivery.
- Experience managing and developing large teams.
- Energy, curiosity and the appetite to lean into a busy role, work across teams and help build the next chapter of Off The Ball.
- A genuine interest in sport, audiences, media innovation and the future of digital sports content.
