About the Role

 

We are seeking an accomplished Multimedia News Reporter to join our dynamic news team.

 

This is a key newsroom role for an experienced broadcast journalist with a proven ability to break stories, deliver authoritative live coverage and produce high quality journalism across radio, digital and social platforms.

 

The successful candidate will play a leading role in the daily news operation, identifying and driving original journalism, providing expert on air analysis, and contributing to editorial decision making across our stations and the Network News service of Independent Local Radio Stations.

 

Reporting to the Group Director of News, you will be expected to work independently, exercise strong editorial judgement, and consistently deliver accurate, compelling journalism under the pressure of rolling deadlines. Experience in mobile journalism and field based multimedia production is essential.

 

This role includes some weekend and out of hours working, depending on news activity.

 

What You'll Do:
•    Provide authoritative live reporting and analysis on breaking and developing stories.
•    Generate original stories through a strong network of contacts and trusted sources.
•    Identify, develop and progress exclusive news lines and original journalism.
•    Deliver authoritative live and pre recorded reports, analysis and two way interviews across a range of programmes and platforms.
•    Record, edit and produce high quality audio and video content in the field.
•    Write and deliver clear, engaging and accurate news copy to tight deadlines.
•    Compile and present news bulletins to the highest editorial standards when required.
•    Attend court sittings, political events, press conferences and other key news events.
•    Collaborate closely with editors and colleagues to shape daily editorial coverage.
•    Work flexibly, including unsocial hours and weekends, when required by the news agenda.

•    Is an experienced multimedia broadcast journalist with an exceptional radio and digital skill set.
•    Has a strong track record of breaking stories and producing original journalism.
•    Demonstrates outstanding editorial judgement and thrives in a fast paced newsroom.
•    Has an extensive network of trusted contacts across politics, public affairs, emergency services and other key sectors.
•    Is an accomplished live broadcaster, comfortable providing informed analysis and handling unscripted on air situations.
•    Is an exceptional storyteller with first class writing, interviewing and production skills.
•    Can prioritise multiple competing stories while maintaining accuracy under pressure.
•    Has a thorough understanding of media law, broadcasting regulation, ethics and the institutions of the State.
•    Brings energy, curiosity and sound news judgement to every shift.

•    A minimum of five years' experience in broadcast news reporting in a busy newsroom.
•    Demonstrable experience delivering live coverage of major news events and producing original journalism.
•    Proven experience using mobile journalism techniques to produce high quality content.
•    A full, clean driver's licence.
•    A third-level qualification in Journalism or a related discipline.
