M365 Engineer

Full-time, Permanent
Location: UK-based with occasional travel to London and/or Peterborough (plus occasional international travel)

Our Team: How we enrich everyday life

You’ll be joining our Microsoft 365 team, part of the wider Enterprise Technology function. We design, build and run the Microsoft 365 services used by colleagues across multiple regions, supporting thousands of users every day.

We work closely with teams across security, compliance, SharePoint, Power Platform and regional on-prem teams. It’s a collaborative, distributed setup where everyone has ownership and a strong voice in how things are done. We care about getting the detail right, clean design, smart automation, and making sure what we build genuinely improves how people work.

We’re currently in the middle of an exciting phase, bringing our environment up to a modern baseline and setting the foundations to unlock more of the M365 platform.

The Difference you will make

In this role, you’ll help shape and improve a core platform that underpins how the organisation collaborates and operates. You’ll be hands-on in building, supporting and evolving Microsoft 365 services, making them more secure, more resilient, and easier to use at scale.

You’ll also play a part in moving the platform forward, streamlining manual processes, improving standards, and helping the service move from simply “working” to being well-engineered and future-ready.

Your role

You’ll take ownership of Microsoft 365 services end-to-end from design through to BAU support and ongoing optimisation.

Responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Engineering and supporting core M365 services (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Entra ID)
  • Managing and improving tenant configuration, policies and standards
  • Strengthening identity and security controls (Conditional Access, MFA, identity protection)
  • Supporting compliance capabilities including retention, eDiscovery and audit
  • Automating administration and reporting using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph
  • Troubleshooting complex cross-service issues and supporting 2nd/3rd line incidents
  • Working closely with security, compliance, endpoints and architecture teams
  • Contributing to technical designs, service improvements and roadmap delivery

The skills you will bring

Required:

  • Proven experience supporting Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environment
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online/OneDrive and Entra ID
  • Good understanding of identity, access and security concepts (including MFA and Conditional Access)
  • Solid PowerShell skills, with experience automating tasks
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple services
  • Comfortable working in a global, distributed team
  • Clear communicator who can explain technical concepts simply
  • Well organised, self-sufficient and able to manage your workload

Desirable:

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g. MS-102, Administrator Expert, SC-300)
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview (compliance, retention, eDiscovery)
  • Exposure to Power Platform (Power Automate, basic Power Apps)
  • Experience in hybrid environments (Entra Connect)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Defender or advanced security tooling
