News Editor

We’re looking for a class-leading News Editor who can hit the ground running in one of the most important roles in motorcycling: marshalling news output for Motor Cycle News (MCN).

This position involves the creation and curation of timely, industry-leading, multi-platform news coverage for the world’s leading motorcycling title in all the areas our audience expects to find it. This includes our website and social media channels as the written word and as video content – as well as for the weekly printed newspaper, and curated for our trio of monthly biking magazines (BIKE, RiDE, and Classic Bike).

The successful candidate will represent MCN at events, interview key industry figures and deliver fast, accurate and engaging reporting accordingly, with a critical eye on quality at all times.

That’s why we’re looking for someone with solid news training, ideally to NCTJ level, with newsroom experience to boot. A solid applicant will have the ability to not only sniff out stories that are resonant with the UK’s motorcycling community, but they’ll also proactively steer MCN’s news agenda at the same time, creating news exclusives and gaining access to the biggest stories in motorcycling before they’ve happened.

Working closely with the MCN editorial team and the title editors, a brilliant News Editor will also have strong communication and organisational skills, be able to commission freelancers to budget, and assess the value of each article. Reuse and repurposing of content across titles and workflows is critical.

Of course, being a keen motorcyclist is highly desirable for the role, but not essential. We’re looking for a candidate with exceptional newsroom talent first and foremost.

For the ideal candidate, there may also be opportunities to propose, create and write road tests, product tests and features for all titles within the motorcycling division, when and where appropriate.

Closing date: Tuesday 17th November
