About the Role
Newstalk is looking for an experienced, creative and ambitious Researcher to join the team behind Newstalk Breakfast, one of Ireland’s leading news and current affairs programmes.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in a fast-paced, high-impact programme that helps shape the national conversation every morning. You’ll work alongside a talented production team to find the stories that matter, develop compelling content and deliver journalism that informs, challenges and engages a growing audience.
We’re looking for someone with strong editorial instincts, a passion for news and current affairs, and the creativity and drive to make great radio in a dynamic environment.
What You’ll Do:
In this exciting, hybrid-working, fast-paced role, you will:
- Generate, research, and develop original ideas for the show
- React quickly to breaking news, ensuring it reaches air first and with accuracy
- Edit relevant sound clips and think creatively about how audio is used on the show
- Break news stories and develop fresh angles, including identifying new contributors
- Secure impactful, on-air exclusives for the programme with people at the centre of the story
- Support the producers across all aspects of the live programme, including research and editing
- Identify opportunities for on-location reporting by members of the production team
- Write scripts and compile briefing materials for the presenter
- Create opportunities to help drive the programme’s presence across digital and social platforms
- Source new and diverse voices for the programme
- Bring energy and creativity to the on-air output
- Take ownership of specific aspects of the show, continuously developing and improving them
- Undertake ad hoc tasks to support the smooth running of the show
What You'll Have:
- Experience researching for a live radio programme
- A strong working knowledge of broadcast journalism
- A keen interest in current affairs and engaging, topical content
- A self-starter with the ability to identify, pitch, and develop ideas for broadcast
- Proficiency in audio recording and editing, as well as digital and social media
- The ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines
What You’ll Need:
- At least one year’s experience in a similar role
- A qualification in a related discipline
