Video Reporter, BMAI
About Bauer Media Audio Ireland
Bauer Media Audio Ireland is a leading commercial audio and media business in Ireland, with brands including Newstalk, Today FM, 98FM, SPIN, Beat, Red FM, iRadio, Off The Ball and GoLoud. Our journalism reaches audiences across broadcast, digital audio, video and social platforms.
About the Opportunity
We have a number of roles for Video Reporters to deliver original, accessible and high-quality public-interest journalism for audiences across Ireland. Successful candidates will find, report, shoot and edit stories for audio and digital video, with a particular focus on Irish-language journalism, women and minority sports, and stories from Ireland’s regions.
The roles are part of Bauer Media Audio Ireland’s delivery under Coimisiún na Meán’s News Reporting Scheme. Appointments are expected to be for an initial 12 months and will work across relevant Bauer brands and platforms, combining strong editorial judgement with mobile-first video storytelling.
This is a great opportunity for those with contacts or demonstrable reporting knowledge across Ireland's regions, and/or Irish-language communities.
Applicants will be asked to submit your CV and a short showreel or demo that demonstrates the breadth of their reporting and digital video work. Candidates may be shortlisted through portfolio review and competency-based assessment. A panel may be formed from this campaign for Video Reporter appointments across the participating Bauer Media Audio Ireland brands during the project period.
What You’ll Do:
- Pitch and develop original public-interest stories, prioritising under-reported voices and issues and building a reliable network of contacts and contributors.
- Produce a minimum working contribution aligned to the funded project output: each appointed journalist is expected to produce three stand-alone, unique video pieces per week, subject to editorial planning and the needs of the relevant brand.
- Self-shoot, record, script, edit and publish high-quality video reports, typically around three minutes, while creating longer-form interview-led pieces where the story and platform require them.
- Recut and adapt stories for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X, using platform-appropriate formats to maximise reach and engagement.
- Record and edit broadcast-quality audio and, where required, deliver live or recorded reports for radio and digital audio.
- Research thoroughly, verify digital and human sources, interview contributors sensitively and accurately, and deliver balanced journalism to deadline.
- React quickly to breaking news and changing editorial priorities while protecting accuracy, fairness and quality.
- Work constructively with editors, programme teams and social/digital colleagues, sharing information, responding to feedback and supporting cross-brand publication.
- Follow editorial, legal, regulatory, privacy, copyright and data-protection requirements, escalating higher-risk material for legal/editorial clearance where appropriate.
- Support scheme compliance by maintaining accurate records and links for funded content and applying the required News Reporting Scheme credit to published content as directed.
What We’re Looking For:
- Demonstrable journalism or broadcast/digital reporting experience, with a strong portfolio showing on-camera or on-air delivery and original reporting.
- Strong news judgement and a broad understanding of Irish current affairs, society, politics, culture and the issues that matter to audiences locally and nationally.
- Proven ability to self-shoot and edit video to a professional digital standard, with sound editorial instincts around framing, sequencing, captions, pacing and platform formats.
- Confident interviewing, script-writing and storytelling skills, including the ability to find distinctive voices and handle sensitive subjects appropriately.
- Ability to record and edit clean audio in studio and on location, and to work calmly to tight deadlines in a fast-moving news environment.
- Working knowledge of media law and journalistic ethics, including defamation, privacy, copyright, court/reporting restrictions and source protection.
- Strong planning, organisation, collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to manage several stories at once.
- Audience awareness and digital literacy: you understand how different audiences discover and engage with news across broadcast, social and on-demand platforms.
Desirable:
- Irish-language proficiency, particularly for reporting or interviewing.
- A full driving licence and ability to travel for reporting assignments.
