About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Weekend News Editor to lead the weekend newsroom operation delivering news content across Bauer Media Audio Ireland’s national, regional, and local radio brands and the network news service, which supplies news and sport content to every commercial radio brand in Ireland.
The Weekend News Editor is a full time, five days a week, role and will carry overall editorial responsibility for all newsroom output on Saturday and Sunday and will assist in preparing newsroom content for the week ahead on weekdays.
Reporting to the Group Director of News, this role is central to managing people, planning coverage, delivering strong journalism at weekends, ensuring consistently high standards on air and across all digital platforms, and ensuring continuity between weekday and weekend operations.
The successful candidate will also be required to act in an upward capacity by providing editorial and operational cover for other editors and news desk based staff during periods of absence.
This is an opportunity to lead weekend news coverage across Ireland's largest commercial radio group, shaping output for some of the country's most recognised audio brands, including Newstalk, Today FM and our Network News service.
You'll play a key role in setting the editorial agenda, leading a talented newsroom team and delivering coverage of the stories that matter most to audiences across Ireland.

What You'll Do:
Editorial Leadership & Output
- Lead and manage the weekend news team, providing clear editorial direction and decision making.
- Have overall editorial responsibility for Saturday and Sunday newsroom output to the BMAI group and our network news client stations.
- Ensure all content is produced in accordance with the principles of good journalistic practice, defamation law, and Coimisiún na Meán Codes of Conduct.
- Plan, source, curate, craft and read news bulletins across all Bauer Media Audio Ireland brands to the highest possible standard.
- Oversee the continuous delivery of high quality, accurate and engaging news content throughout weekend newsroom operations.
Planning & Coverage
- Lead weekend forward planning, diary management, and coverage strategy, including breaking and rolling news stories.
- Assign, manage and support reporters, correspondents, and newsroom staff to ensure effective coverage.
- Shape coverage to suit different brands, audiences, and formats across the BMAI group and our client stations.
- Monitor news wires, websites, social media platforms and print publications for story ideas and diary development.
- Motivate, manage, and develop the weekend newsroom team to produce high quality, innovative output.
Projects & Collaboration
- Manage and deliver editorial projects assigned by the Group Director of News, including special coverage and longer term initiatives.
- Work closely with weekday editors to ensure consistency of standards, tone, and editorial priorities across the week.
- Act in an upward capacity, filling in for other newsroom editors during holidays, absences or as required.

- An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- Experienced in broadcast newsroom systems, including Burli NE or similar platforms.
- Proactive, self-motivated and committed to high editorial standards.
What You'll Have:
- A minimum of three years’ experience on busy news desk, reporting or a senior newsroom role.
- Demonstrated experience as a broadcast journalist, including bulletin production and reading.
- A third-level qualification in journalism, media, or a related discipline.
- Excellent working knowledge of Irish media law, defamation, and broadcasting regulation.
